Can I keep my mobile number when I switch operators?

Mobile subscribers who wish to switch their service provider may retain their mobile number. This means that all mobile customers with an 083, 085, 086 or 087 mobile number can move to a new operator and keep their existing mobile number. If you are dialing one of the prefixes above and if the person you are calling has switched their service provider, you will hear a “beep” before the call connects – this is known as an “off-net” or “off network” call.

Consumers should contact the new operator of their choice to set up their new subscription and request to keep their existing number. Certain information will be required by the operator (to ensure security and correct identity is maintained), and the operator will usually need to phone the consumer on the relevant number in order to do a live security check. In most cases, it should take no longer than a few hours to port the number to the new operator.
