PC ''Technical Support'' scam

ComReg is receiving calls from many consumers about unsolicited phonecalls received from people saying they are from a computer company (such as Microsoft) advising people to ring another number to have their pcs checked for viruses. This is a scam.

If you receive a call like this you are advised to make a note of the Irish phone number supplied by the caller, and to pass it on to ComReg consumer team. You are then advised to hang up.

Calls can also be reported to the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation on 01 6663776.
