Broadband, Phone and Postal information for the Irish consumer from ComReg

Frequently Asked Questions

Fixed Line

How long will I have to wait for my new phone line?

Consumers have contacted ComReg to inform us that there are occasions when a service provider is not providing a timeframe for installation of their new line, something that the Universal Service Provider(USP), currently Eircom, is obliged to provide. In this case, ComReg would to like to remind consumers to ensure that such a timeframe is made available to them and that they should clarify the costs associated with the provision of any new line with the service provider.
In some instances, there may be additional costs associated with the delivery of the service under USO. Click here for further information on the access threshold and current USO requirements paper(ComReg05/70) and click here for details of the recent USO Consultation, ComReg 06/16, (now closed).

In addition, consumers contacted ComReg to query the forecast date they have been given with a view to expediting installation but ComReg has no legal powers to instruct any service provider to deliver service within a specific time frame. Conditions like proximity to existing network or weather conditions can interfere with installation dates.   Click here for further information on the performance targets set down for the Universal Service Obligation (Eircom is the designated universal service provider) and  click here for details of the recent Consultation on USO ComReg 06/16 (now closed).
