The eircom Talktime Family Bundle is changing, what does it mean for me?

Why is the change happening?
eircom states that due to high customer calling patterns with its Talktime Family Bundle offers, which were introduced in October 2008, it is no longer possible for eircom to maintain the prices and conditions of the retail bundles and therefore it is modifying them.

How do I know if I am on the affected Bundle?
If you are subscribed to an affected bundle, you will have received a letter from eircom in relation to the matter.

What is the change?
The change depends on the eircom bundle that you are currently subscribed to and your individual usage. The change was communicated by eircom in its letters to its customers. eircom’s proposed alternative may involve a change in package, package price and changes to free unlimited calls to local, national or Meteor subscribers.

  • In order for each customer to work out what the change means for them, in terms of price, they will need to be aware of the new package price, what it includes and their individual usage patterns.
  • Consumers can go to ComReg’s website www.callcosts.ie , select the Home Phone and Broadband Calculator, and enter their usage details to ascertain the estimated costs.

What is ComReg’s advice to consumers?
If you receive a letter from eircom in relation to this matter, you will also be notified, in the letter, of your right to terminate your contract with eircom, before 31st December 2009, without penalty.

  • ComReg advises affected consumers to shop around and decide what the best operator/ package is for them.
  • ComReg advises consumers to go to www.callcosts.ie, to see which operator package or bundle is best for their usage.
  • If you wish to subscribe to a package from another operator you can contact that operator and switch to that operator, before 31st December 2009, without any penalty from eircom.
  • If you have decided to switch operator or withdraw from your contract with eircom you should then inform eircom, by calling 1800 460 560 (Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 9:00pm), prior to 31st December 2009.

What about my minimum contract period?

  • If you decide to terminate your contract with eircom, before 31st December 2009, your minimum contract period does not apply.
  • If you decide to accept the package changes or move to another package proposed to you by eircom, then your minimum period and time that you have been in contract with eircom remain unchanged.

When will the change come into effect?
The price increases and implementation of the limits/included free minutes or moves to new plans, if relevant, will come into effect from 1st January 2010. This means that any bills received by affected customers after 1st January 2010 will reflect the new package price.

What changes I will notice on my eircom bill?
If you decide not to terminate your eircom contract, you will receive your first bill reflecting the changes after 1st January 2010.

  • This initial bill will reflect the new package price for the period of the bill; however, you will receive a credit on the initial bill for the difference between the old and new package prices for the period up to 31 December 2009. All limits, if applicable with apply after 1st January 2010 and will apply to calls made after this date.
  • Subsequent eircom bills will reflect the new package pricing in full.
