Broadband - can I get the service?
A number of service providers offer Irish residential consumers broadband connectivity to the internet. Broadband coverage will vary depending on location, and consumers should check with their service provider for availability of broadband in their area (i.e. to ensure that the precise location has service). There are several reasons why broadband may not be available such as the location of the premises which may be too far from the local exchange (for DSL/phone-line based services), there may not be a 3G signal in the area (for mobile broadband), there may not be “line of sight” to the nearest high-site (for wireless broadband), and there may not be broadband enabled cable service in the area (for cable broadband).
It is important to note that that fixed line or DSL-broadband is not the only broadband option available. Wireless, mobile, cable, satellite and wireless broadband is now available in a significant number of Irish towns and is becoming more available as service providers expand their networks.
