3G

3G stands for Third Generation (to distinguish it from the current generation services such as GSM and GPRS).

What does it do?

3G offers higher speeds on mobile phones for accessing emails, surfing the internet and downloading or uploading data and video.  A 3G compatible phone or data card is required to access the service.

Are 3G services available in Ireland?

There are currently four 3G operators licenced in Ireland;

All four network operators are building out their networks in accordance with their licence commitments.  3G handsets are available from 3, Vodafone and Meteor which allow customers to watch music videos, enjoy video calls and messages, download 3D games and keep up to date with the latest sports video clip highlights in addition to higher speed internet access and data transfer.
