ComReg seeks your view on universal service

The purpose of USO is to ensure that basic phone services are available to consumers within Ireland at an affordable price.  Universal Service mainly covers the supply of telephone access to consumerss, public payphones and availability of directory services.

Eircom is the current Universal Service Provider, but the current period of 4 years will end in June 2010. It is now appropriate to address the period after June 2010, and ComReg wishes to consult with you so that we can make an informed decision on the approach regarding the  provision of Universal Services.

The services covered under universal services are:

  • Provision of Access at a fixed location
  • Directory Enquiry Services and Directories
  • Public Payphones
  • Provision of Services to Consumers with Disabilities
  • Affordability
  • Control of Expenditure
