VAT increase

4th January 2012

In January 2012 the VAT rate changed from 21% to 23%, this increase was announced in Budget 2012.
As a result of this change, you may notice an increase in your phone and/or broadband bill.   Where your Operator chooses not to increase your charges, or  increases your bill directly in line with the Vat Rate increase (from 21% to 23%)  this is not  considered by ComReg to be a change that is proposed by the operator to the terms & conditions of a package that you have signed up for and therefore your operator does not have to give you one months notice of the change and you will be not be able to withdraw from your contract without penalty due to the increase in vat.  However, where your Operator increases  your bill by more than the Vat Rate increase (from 21% to 23%)  this is deemed a change to the terms & conditions of the package that you have signed up for and therefore your operator must give you one months notice of the change and you may withdraw from your contract  without penalty.
